Do polarised sunglasses need anti-glare?

Polarised lenses don't need anti-glare.

Despite the name, anti-glare actually lets more light through a lens which defeats the purpose of sun lenses.

Instead, anti-glare is a coating applied to spectacle lenses to absorb light instead of being reflected and bouncing off the surface of the lens.

However...

Premium quality sun lenses use anti-glare only on the rear surface of the lens which allows sunlight to pass through from the back instead of bouncing backwards into your eyes.

In optics, this is called "bounce back" when sunlight gets-in behind your lenses from the sides or above.
